Welcome to 2021, our 50th anniversary year.
We certainly intend to celebrate this tremendous milestone in style.
I have been involved in the planning of this exciting weekend in April and really hope we will be able to celebrate together.

Cheryl Colley and I have been tasked with finding and selecting photos from the thousands in our archive that reflect 50 years of The Court Theatre. These will be used in the book Felicity Price has so cleverly compiled from interviews and Derek Hargreaves’ memories, telling The Court’s story. We have had the opportunity to work with Elric Hooper, the iconic Artistic Director who held his position for over 20 years. He opened his archives to us and talked through many of the shows he had directed or acted in. What a privilege to spend this time with such a remarkable man.
We have planned a special afternoon for The Supporters on the Sunday of the celebration weekend. There will be entertainment in the form of a humorous debate, calling on some of the well know identities of the Theatre. There will be cake cutting and the launch of our new name as ‘Friends of The Court’. Make sure you register early, as the auditorium only holds 400 people. The ticket price will be low, covering costs only.
The Saturday evening function is open to everyone. It will be a black-tie extravaganza with unique entertainment, food and wine.
Make sure you acquire one of The History of The Court books - and maybe another as a present for someone who has loved the Court!
In news for the ushers, we intend to hold coffee mornings and evenings for the chief ushers and deputies as part of our commitment to enhance better communication. The ushers are our vital connection with The Court’s patrons, and we feel it’s so important that they are kept well informed of what is happening in and around the Theatre. Allanah James is our committee liaison person, so do feel free to contact her anytime by emailing supporters@courttheatre.org.nz (attention Allanah).
Our end of year records tell us that donations from The Supporters nearly doubled last year. This indicates the huge love and help you were prepared to give The Court in a very troubling year. Thank you all so much.
I hope you have all enjoyed lots of sun, holidays, food, wine and the things you love as we enter this very special year. We look forward to your highly valued and ongoing support.
