From the Chief Executive

As always, it is my pleasure to talk to you through Court Cues and keep you in touch with how The Court Theatre is travelling in these unprecedented times - our “new normal”.

We have just finished Rants in the Dark - and what an entertaining and enlightening season that was. So many of us as parents could identify with Emily Writes’ version of events.

Our Court Jesters continue to be busy and well supported with Scared Scriptless, The Early Early Late Show and client work.

Next, we have Boy Mestizo on the stage on the Saturday of Labour Weekend. We wouldn’t normally schedule anything at this time, but we recognise that it’s not so easy for people to go away these days, so do plan a “staycation” around coming to The Court.

Don't miss James Roque's critically acclaimed comedy show!

If you love musicals and rising stars, then you won’t want to miss Holiday Inn. In partnership with The Court Theatre, Ara Institute of Canterbury’s National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA) is proud to present the New Zealand premiere of Holiday Inn.

Based on the classic 1940s film starring Bing Crosby & Fred Astaire, Holiday Inn is a soaring romantic musical following a love triangle between three musicians who have plenty to sing and dance about!

Featuring music from legendary composer and lyricist Irving Berlin, audiences can expect to be treated to performances of White Christmas; Steppin’ Out with My Baby and Cheek to Cheek by New Zealand’s rising stars of musical theatre. Holiday Inn opens on October 30.

Our new home in the City continues to take shape and the first concept designs are with the quantity surveyors. There is a tremendous amount of planning that goes into building a world-class theatre and we can’t wait to show you what the talented teams have come up with. The architects are Athfield Architects and Haworth Tompkins. We truly have the A team working on this.

Our beloved Shed is starting to get the familiar summer musical feel right about now. Jersey Boys has been cast and rehearsals have begun! There is no room in the green room, you can barely hear yourself think, snippets of tunes are starting to loop in our heads, watch where you walk as clothing racks have appeared out of nowhere - and we wouldn’t have it any other way! This excitement that we are all starting to feel reminds us of why we all choose to do what we do, and share it with you.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Ngā mihi nui

Barbara
