Usher Training

Usher Training will be getting underway soon. All ushers need to attend one of the annual training sessions to continue ushering at Court Theatre.

The training sessions will be held in the main theatre on the following dates:

- 5:45pm, Tuesday, 23 March 2021;

- 2pm, Sunday, 28 March 2021;

- 6pm, Sunday, 2 May 2021

If required, a final session will be held 6pm, Sunday, 9 May 2021

An email invitation to attend one of the training sessions will be sent soon by Rachel Vavasour, The Court Theatre’s Customer Experience Manager.

A major focus this year is on supporting our ushers. John McSweeney has done a great job for many years looking after our ushering team and ensuring their training - and we are very grateful to him. This role has recently been redeveloped with much wider duties and now demands significantly more time. With John having full-time work commitments, he is passing on his responsibilities. Our new Usher Convenor is Supporters Committee Deputy Chair Allanah James. Allanah is receiving an extensive hand over from John, particularly for the organisation of this year’s usher training.

Allanah will be working closely with Rachel Vavasour to ensure seamless communication for ushering teams.

Ushers who have questions or feedback can contact Allanah at allanah.james@gmail.com

Chief and Deputy Ushers were introduced to Allanah at briefings held recently during which they were given an insight into the productions being held this season by Artistic Director Dan Pengelly and an outline of contingency planning should there be any COVID-19 lockdowns. Designs for the new theatre were displayed and questions frequently asked by patrons about the move to the new theatre were answered.

The Chief Ushers will share the content of this briefing with their teams. The briefing was the first in what will be quarterly updates.

Our ushers are one of the theatre’s greatest assets – and wonderful ambassadors. We are committed to providing them with robust communication to support their wellbeing and to ensure they have up to date knowledge about what is happening so they can confidently share it.
